The Olympic Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen took place in 1936 and were the fourth modern Winter Olympic Games.

As with the previous years there was no clear indication as to how Garmisch-Partenkirchen came to host these Games, although it may be that the location was up to the hosts of the Summer Olympics that year. However this would be the last year that this would be the case.
