The first Olympic Games in Los Angeles took place in 1932 and were the ninth modern Summer Olympic Games and only the second to be held outside of Europe.

In 1923 not long after Amsterdam were awarded the 1928 event, the 1932 Games were given to Los Angeles by default. This was because there was no competing bid from any other country.
