The San Francisco Earthquake was the most devastating earthquake in the history of the United States.

The San Andreas Fault, the main link between the North American plate and the Pacific Plate is generally regarded as one of the most volatile in the world, and certainly the best known. The section through California is seen as the most dangerous as it hugs the coast of the United States in the northern part of the state including in and around San Francisco.
